Sustainable Health in Procurement Project (SHiPP)
Promoting sustainability in health sector
SHiPP is a partnership project between United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and Health Care Without Harm (HCWH) which was launched in ten pilot countries – Moldova, Ukraine, South Africa, Tanzania, Zambia, China, India, Vietnam, Brazil and Guatemala – with the objective to promote sustainability in the health sector, address the intersection between health, human rights and the environment, aggregate demand for sustainable manufacturing and waste management and to impact positively on the environment and human health.
In India the program aims to work with the Indian health sector and allied partners in the health sector including manufacturers and suppliers of pharmaceutical products and medical devices to reduce the harm to people and the environment caused by the delivery of health care services and manufacture, procurement, use and disposal of medical products.
The Sustainable Health in Procurement Project and H.E.L.P is making concerted efforts to incorporate sustainability into the procurement processes of network members, to identify carbon hotspots in supply chain and to build capacities of members on sustainable procurement.
