Youth Charter for Climate Action

Following on the Healthy Climate Prescription letter that mobilized 40 million health professionals worldwide to raise the health voice for climate action, HELP mobilised young health professionals in India for a national response and call for action. A10-point charter from India was drafted by HELP along with young healthcare professionals and was endorsed by over 20,000 medical, dental, public health and allied health stream students. It was presented to the Indian government while also joining the voices of several hundreds of other young health professionals around the world. The Youth Charter was also showcased at COP 26, in November 2021 by Dr Poornima Prabhakaran.

Healthy Climate Prescription Letter

The Global Climate and Health Alliance along with World Health Organisaiton created an open letter to national leaders and country delegations present at COP 26 in Glasgow. The letter called for real action to address the climate crisis by limiting global warming to 1.5°C and make human health and equity central to climate action. HELP broadcasted the call for signatures among our networks and contributed to the over 40 million signatures received.

Fossil Fuel Non-Proliferation Treaty

A global effort is underway to establish a Fossil Fuel Non-Proliferation Treaty, and the health community is ready to add their support to this call. Health organizations are joining academics, scientists, Nobel laureates, cities, faith leaders, and young people in endorsing the call for a treaty to stop fossil fuels with a new letter of support specifically from the health community. HELP is encouraging its members to endorse the letter and advocate for the use of cleaner fuels and phasing out fossil fuels.
